Course overview
What is Machine Learning Foundations (MLF) about?
MLF is a Diploma-level course that builds the linear algebra and calculus foundation for machine learning — what a model and a learning algorithm actually are, through vector spaces and multivariate optimization, to eigenvalues and regression.
- ▸Week 1: what machine learning is, supervised learning, classification, dimensionality reduction, density estimation.
- ▸Week 2: vector spaces, dot products, functions, derivatives, gradients, multivariate optimization, high-dimensional geometry.
- ▸Week 3: the four fundamental subspaces, orthogonal projection, least squares.
- ▸Week 4: diagonalization, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, linear and polynomial/ridge regression.
